Rod Rhodes was born in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of a fundamentalist minister, Rev. Darrel Rhodes. His family moved to Rifle, CO in 1949 and then Colorado Springs in 1953. He went on to be an artist and art history professor at Colorado College from 1972-1975, and he was director of the Fine Arts Center from 1976-1978. However, differences with the board of directors led to him and ten other employees being dismissed.

His final exhibition, Stations of the Cross, was posthumously exhibited at Coburn Gallery at CC.

He created miniature interior landscapes.

He passed away from complications related to HIV on October 27, 1989. [1]
