History
The bar was founded and owned by former figure skater Jeanne "Jinx" Clark, and was initially based in the lower level of the Acacia Hotel, across from Acacia Park. Following a tumultuous dispute with the Colorado Springs housing authority, Jinx moved to a new location at the corner of Cimarron and Nevada in 1980, before ultimately closing down in 1990.
Community Impacts
...there was a bar in downtown Colorado Springs called Jinx's Place. And it was not a gay bar, but it's where a lot of gay people would hang out. And I remember people saying 'never going to Jinx's place, because that's where all the hairdressers go after work.' But it wasn't a gay bar...And I remember one guy in particular, in the late 60s, he had a cape lined with red. He'd throw it over his shoulder, and he had big hair. He was a hairdresser and he'd always be seen coming and going. I thought, so I wonder what that bar is. That's where that bar is. They called the Jinx's Place. And it was red curtains, velvet curtains, very over the top.
