Mary Lou Makepeace

Colorado Springs' first female mayor. Former city councilmember. [1] Former Executive Director of Inside Out Youth Services.

Mary Lou Makepeace proclaimed that August 20-27, 2000 would be Pridefest Celebration week, while honoring the The Pikes Peak Gay & Lesbian Community Center. [2]

"The Proclamation of Gay Pride Week is a decisive effort by our city to be inclusive of all its' citizens. Colorado Springs has taken a necessary step to distance ourselves from the myth that we are a hateful and intolerant place. We applaud the Mayor for her leadership in civil rights for all." - Carolyn Cathey, President of the Board of Directors of the Pikes Peak Gay & Lesbian Community Center. [2:1]
