This project was launched in November 2025 by Nico Wilkinson, inspired by the work of the Colorado Springs LGBTQIA2+ Oral History Project and a conversation with activist and leader Monycka Snowbird regarding the history of queer rights in Colorado Springs.
This research is primarily conducted through archived newspapers through the Pikes Peak Library District, Colorado Springs LGBTQIA2+ Oral History Project episodes, and community input.
The scope of this project currently encompasses the 1800's to the present day. It is a place to view Colorado Springs queer history through the lenses of time, place, and connections, as it has happened and as it is being made.
As of August 2026, the content within is primarily written by Nico Wilkinson, with contributions from other researchers where noted, utilizing knowledge sourced from newspaper archives, the Internet Archive, PPLD, LGBTQ+ Oral History Interviews, Colorado College Special Collections and is based on various materials, social media, and databases, unless otherwise stated.
Anyone in the community is welcome to Contribute to the Project. If you're new to LGBTQ+ history research, check out the Tools for Research page. If there is a page or topic you have information, stories, photos, and beyond about, please feel free to submit information to be included. Please don't hesitate to correct any information you find that is incorrect as well.

As of now, there are plans to share and publish this research in a series of posts/videos, and zines/booklets.
This website is edited in universal markdown language using the program Obsidian, and can be broken down into markdown, image, video, and PDF files. The Obsidian vault is published via the Digital Garden plugin. It utilizes the Dataview Obsidian plug-in, and some JS code for the more advanced queries (such as on the Timeline page).
The files for this project will be regularly backed up as zipped folders to the Internet Archive. It might be added to other archives as well.
